Two homeless children inherited their poor grandmother’s old mountain house, but when they stepped inside, something was waiting for them that they never expected 🫣😨

The letter arrived on a Tuesday morning. The envelope was wrinkled and soaked from the rain. Alex almost threw it away with the rest of the mail.

He and his younger sister Marta had already been sleeping behind a supermarket on the edge of town for nearly a month. Sometimes they found old boxes and placed them between the store wall and the garbage containers just to get a little protection from the wind.

Mail rarely came in their names. Usually it was bills or some kind of warnings. But this envelope looked different. White, thick, with their names neatly printed on the front.

“Alex, look…” Marta said quietly, pushing her hair away from her forehead. “It says it’s from a lawyer.”

He frowned.

Their grandmother had died two months earlier in the district hospital. They hadn’t been able to visit her before she passed away. They had no money for the trip, and there were no relatives who could help them.

Their grandmother had always lived very modestly. After their mother died, she moved to the mountains and lived there alone in an old wooden house.

She had never spoken about any money or inheritance.

Alex slowly opened the envelope. Inside was an official document from a lawyer named Mr. Carter.

Alex read the first lines, frowned, and then read them again.

The letter said that he and his sister were the only heirs to their grandmother’s property located in the mountains.

“What property?” Marta asked in surprise.

Alex slowly lifted his head.

“Her house in the mountains.”

Three days later, they stood on a narrow road leading up toward the forest.

The bus had only taken them to a small village at the foot of the mountains. They had to walk the rest of the way. The air smelled of damp earth, pine trees, and cold. Fog drifted slowly between the trees.

Marta held her brother’s hand tightly.

“I remember this place,” she said softly. “Grandma always cooked apple jam on the veranda.”

Through the fog, the house slowly appeared. It looked old and abandoned. The wooden boards of the walls were darkened. Several sheets were missing from the roof. The porch was crooked, and the windows were dark.

The house looked poor. But now it belonged to them.

The lawyer was waiting for them at the gate.

The man, wearing a strict coat and holding a neat folder in his hand, clearly felt uncomfortable standing next to the two thin teenagers.

“Your grandmother made everything very clear,” he said, adjusting his glasses. “This house belongs to both of you.”

He handed Alex a bunch of old brass keys.

Marta squeezed her brother’s hand even tighter.

The keys were surprisingly heavy.

Alex opened the door.

And at that exact moment they realized their grandmother hadn’t left them just an ordinary old house. 😱😲 The continuation of the story can be found in the first comment 👇👇

When they began exploring the house, Alex noticed a strange floorboard. It moved slightly, as if someone had lifted it before. He crouched down, ran his fingers along the edge, and carefully lifted it with a knife.

The board came up. Under the floor was a metal box.

Marta held her breath while Alex pulled it out of the hiding place. The box was heavy. He opened the lid, and they both froze.

Inside were neatly tied bundles of money, several documents, and an old envelope.

On the envelope it said: “For Alex and Marta.” Alex slowly unfolded the letter. The handwriting was their grandmother’s.

“If you are reading this letter, it means you found my house. I knew that one day things might become difficult for you. I couldn’t leave you great wealth, but there is enough money here for you to start a new life. This house has always been your real home. Take care of it, and take care of each other.”

Marta began to cry quietly. Alex looked at the letter for a long time, then slowly raised his eyes to the old walls of the house.

For the first time in a long time, they realized they would no longer be left on the street.

Now they had a home.
