The most handsome boy in school invited his plus-size classmate to a slow dance, hoping to make fun of her, but the moment they stepped into the center of the dance floor, the entire hall froze in shock at what happened 

The prom night in the school gym began like hundreds of other proms: warm string lights stretched across the ceiling, black and gold balloons hung on the walls, soft music flowed from the speakers, and girls in long dresses carefully held up their hems so they would not step on them.

Lena stood a little off to the side by the drinks table, watching her classmates laugh, take pictures, and talk to each other. For many years, she had known that at events like this, there was almost never any place for her.

Her classmates were used to making her the target of their mockery.

She spent a long time choosing a dress and in the end bought a simple dark green one. No sparkles, no luxury — just a neat, modest dress. Her mother helped style her hair, and Lena put on her usual glasses and quietly told herself in the mirror that she would get through this evening calmly.

The music changed, and the host announced a slow dance.

Artem walked over to her.

Lena suddenly took off her glasses slowly and placed them on the nearest table. Then she ran a hand through her hair and let it down, and dark curls softly fell over her shoulders.

And then the music began. And Lena started to dance.

At first, Artem simply did not understand what was happening. But after a few seconds, his expression changed.

Because Lena moved lightly and confidently, as if she had been doing this her whole life. Her steps were precise, fluid, and surprisingly beautiful. She seemed to melt into the music, leading him into a turn, then into another movement, and suddenly the whole dance turned into a real performance.

A quiet murmur spread through the hall.

Someone stopped laughing. Someone lowered their phone. And within half a minute, the dance floor had become almost completely silent. Everyone was looking only at them.
