“Sir, can you help me? My mom is lying on the floor and won’t wake up, but it’s not my fault,” the girl said, and the man passing by suddenly felt that something truly terrible had happened 

“Take me to her”: but the moment he stepped into the house, he was overwhelmed with horror at what had happened inside. 

That evening, the winter was especially cold. The air cut into the face, and the snow underfoot crunched so loudly that it felt as if the whole world could hear every step. A small girl in a pink jacket wandered along the street, no longer knowing where to go. Her cheeks were wet with tears, her lips were trembling, and her breathing was uneven from fear and cold.

She stopped near people who passed by, looked up at them and tried to say something, but no one even slowed their pace. Some looked straight through her, some turned away, others pretended not to notice a child standing alone in the middle of a winter street.

She could barely feel her hands when she saw another adult. A man in a black coat was walking quickly, clearly in a hurry. The girl took a step forward, gathered the last of her courage, and said in a quiet, breaking voice:

— Sir, can you help me? My mom is lying on the floor and won’t wake up, but it’s not my fault.

The man stopped. He looked at her more closely and suddenly felt a strange chill inside—not from the winter air, but from the realization that something truly frightening had happened.

— What happened, little one? Where are your parents? — he asked, crouching down to be at her eye level.

Her eyes filled with even more tears, and the words came out between sobs.

— Sir, my mom… she won’t wake up. I called her by name many times. I shook her by the shoulders. She doesn’t open her eyes. She’s lying on the floor next to the couch. She told me earlier: “If it’s an emergency, go get help.” I put on my coat and went outside. But no one listens. Everyone just keeps walking.

At that moment, the man had no more doubts. He gently took the girl by the hand and asked her name, trying to speak calmly even though everything inside him tightened with anxiety. Then he asked her to show him the house and, without letting go of her hand, took out his phone as they walked.

As they walked down the snow-covered street, he called the police and an ambulance, clearly giving the address. What was seen in that house left everyone speechless  Continued in the first comment 

When they reached the house and opened the door together with the emergency services that had arrived, a scene awaited them inside that took everyone’s breath away.

In the kitchen, near the couch, a woman lay unconscious on the floor. It turned out she had been cooking, was poisoned by carbon monoxide, and lost consciousness without even managing to call for help.

The girl survived only because she immediately sensed that something was wrong and left the house, and her desperate attempt to find someone on the street ended up saving her mother as well. The doctors acted quickly and managed to revive the woman and take her to the hospital.

When everything was over, the man looked once again at the girl in the pink jacket and realized that if he had walked past at that moment, like everyone else, this story could have ended very differently.
