On the bus, a man was arguing with his pregnant wife, and at one point he even raised his fist as if he was about to hit her: the people around them saw everything, but chose to remain silent, yet just a few seconds later something happened that left all the passengers in shock 

When the young couple got on the bus, the tension was immediately noticeable. The woman held onto a pole with one hand and supported her belly with the other, her eyes were red from crying, and her movements were unsteady, as if she was holding on with her last strength. The man walked almost right behind her, not letting her take a single step away, and there was already anger in his voice.

— Stop, I’m not finished yet, he said sharply, grabbing her by the arm. — How dare you walk away when I’m talking to you?

— Enough, Mark, she replied quietly but firmly. — I’ve said everything. We’re getting divorced. I can’t do this anymore… I’m afraid for my child.

He smirked, but there was nothing kind in that smile.

— I didn’t give you permission to get divorced. Who would want you with a belly? Do you think anyone will accept you? You’re mine only, understood?

The woman shook her head, barely holding back her tears.

— No. I will not live with a man who raises his hand against a woman.

After those words, the man seemed to lose control. His voice grew louder and harsher, he no longer paid attention to the people around him or to how his wife was trembling and barely standing. He kept saying more things, offensive and rude, while she simply lowered her eyes, trying not to provoke him even more.

The passengers exchanged glances; some pretended to look at their phones, others watched discreetly, but no one intervened. Everyone hoped it would somehow end on its own.

And suddenly, the man jerked his hand up, clenching his fist. The movement was quick, almost uncontrollable, and for a moment it seemed he really would hit the woman.

The old man sitting next to the woman, who until then had been silent and seemed like an ordinary passenger, suddenly stood up. His movement was precise and confident.

He caught the man’s arm midway, as if he had done it before, and immediately, without giving him time to react, delivered a short, sharp strike to his neck.

The man lost his balance and fell to the floor between the seats. Silence filled the bus, as if someone had turned off the sound.

The old man looked down at him calmly, without haste, but there was such firmness in his gaze that no one dared even to move.

— Don’t you dare touch a pregnant woman, he said quietly, but in a way that everyone heard. — She made everything clear. Leave her alone.

The man lay on the floor, holding his neck and breathing heavily. He no longer shouted and didn’t even try to get up right away, as if for the first time he understood what he had done.

When the bus stopped at the next stop, he quickly got up, avoided looking around, and silently got off, as if he was afraid not only of the police, but also of that old man’s gaze.

The woman remained standing, holding onto the pole, still trembling, and only then quietly sat down in the now-empty seat. She looked at the old man with gratitude; her eyes were still filled with tears, but now there was relief in them too.
