Ceramic tiles are a versatile and durable material that enhances our kitchens and bathrooms.

However, the most vulnerable part is the grout. Areas around the sink, bathtub, stove, and floor are especially affected. Over time, the grout darkens, accumulates grease, soap scum, and even mold.

But don’t worry! There are several effective methods to restore the whiteness of the grout and protect it from dirt in the future.

Proven Methods for Cleaning Grout

🔹 Baking soda + water
Mix 3 tablespoons of baking soda with 500 ml of water. Dampen the grout and scrub it with a toothbrush. This method is great for light dirt and regular maintenance.

🔹 Lemon juice
Cut a lemon in half and rub it over the grout. Let it sit for 15-20 minutes, then scrub with a brush or sponge. Citric acid dissolves grease and brightens the surface.

🔹 Baking soda + vinegar
Mix baking soda with a little water to form a thick paste and apply it to the dirty grout. Then spray vinegar on top – a reaction will occur that breaks down old buildup. Wipe everything clean with a sponge after a few minutes.

🔹 Bleach
A great solution against mold and yellow stains. Simply soak a sponge in bleach and wipe the grout. Make sure to wear gloves and ventilate the room!

🔹 Fine sandpaper
If the dirt is very stubborn, gently rub the grout with fine sandpaper. Be careful not to damage the tiles.

🔹 Store-bought cleaning products
If you don’t want to experiment, you can buy a ready-made grout cleaner.

How to Keep Grout Clean for Longer

After cleaning, it’s important to protect the grout from future dirt. Here are a few tips:

✅ Rub the grout with a paraffin candle
This trick seals the surface, preventing dirt from penetrating. Plus, the wax helps prevent mold.

✅ Refresh the color of the grout with a paint marker
If the grout has lost its color, use a special nitro-based paint marker.
