During the wedding, an unknown old woman approached the bride and whispered just a few words in her ear: right after that, the bride canceled the wedding 

In the middle of the celebration everything was perfect. Dishes were laid out on the long wooden tables, guests raised their glasses, the newlyweds were laughing, the musicians played a lively melody, and the bride had just been pulled into another dance. Everyone was happy for the young couple — nothing seemed able to ruin this day.

But at that very moment, while laughter echoed across the whole courtyard, a bent figure appeared at the edge of the venue. An old woman in a worn-out headscarf, dressed in faded, shabby clothes. No one had invited her, no one knew her. And that was exactly why the music seemed to stop on its own when she walked purposefully straight toward the bride.

The guests exchanged looks, whispered, some covering their mouths with their hands.

— Who is she?

— No idea…

— Maybe a distant relative?

The bride tried to smile, but her lips trembled. She didn’t know this woman, yet a cold shiver ran down her spine. The old woman stopped in front of her, gave her a long, heavy stare, and slowly leaned toward her ear.

The guests saw the woman whisper something — and the bride’s face instantly turned pale, as if all the blood had drained from it. The old woman gave a barely noticeable nod and stepped back, leaving the bride frozen in place.

— What did she say? — her friends whispered, but the bride couldn’t utter a single word.

A few seconds later, she announced in a sharp, steady voice:

— The wedding is canceled.

She lifted her eyes to the groom — and saw him nervously look away, as if he feared meeting her gaze. In that moment, everything fell into place.

The old woman’s words echoed in her mind:

“My daughter is carrying his child. He disgraced her. He will deceive you just like he deceived her. I couldn’t save mine… but I will save you.”

The bride felt her breath catch. The old woman was the mother of the woman she had heard only vague rumors about — rumors she had never wanted to believe. Now everything became real.

She stepped forward, lifted her veil to hide the trembling, and said loudly and clearly, loud enough for everyone even at the gate to hear:

— The wedding is canceled.

The guests gasped. The groom turned pale. The music stopped completely.

And the old woman walked away slowly, without looking back — saving, for the last time, the one who could still be saved.
