Women with big butts: Study reveals they’re healthier and smarter

A recent scientific study has caused a stir on social media and headlines around the world:  women with larger buttocks not only tend to be healthier, but also smarter , according to researchers at Oxford University.

Far from being a simple unsubstantiated claim, the study analyzed data from more than 16,000 women and came to a surprising conclusion:

The accumulation of fat in the hips and buttocks  can bring important benefits to health and cognitive development.

According to scientists, the fat stored in the buttocks and thighs—unlike abdominal fat—  acts as a kind of protective shield . This fat contains omega-3 fatty acids, which are beneficial for the heart and brain. It also helps reduce bad cholesterol levels and promotes better blood sugar control.

“Women with a higher proportion of gluteal fat tend to have a more favorable metabolic profile, with a lower risk of heart disease, diabetes, or high cholesterol,” explained Dr. Konstantinos Manolopoulos, lead author of the study.

The most striking part of the study is the relationship between a large butt and intelligence. According to the researchers, the accumulation of omega-3s in this area of the body is directly related to
brain development and cognitive abilities , especially during pregnancy. Omega-3-rich fat nourishes the fetus’s brain, promoting better neurological development in the baby, suggesting that women with this characteristic could also have smarter children.

Furthermore, the hormone levels that allow fat to be stored in these areas are often related to  increased production of leptin , a hormone that regulates appetite and metabolism and also influences brain function.

Breaking stereotypes

This study has been celebrated by many women who for years have faced social stigma for having a curvier body. In a world obsessed with extreme thinness, this research offers a new perspective:  having curves is not only natural, but can also be synonymous with health and intelligence .

Social media has been flooded with positive messages celebrating the discovery. “Finally, science backs us up!” wrote one Twitter user. “My butt is no longer just a fashion statement, it’s now proof of my intelligence,” joked another.

Conclusion

While this study doesn’t mean that all women with larger buttocks are automatically healthier or smarter, it does highlight the importance of appreciating body diversity and recognizing that health doesn’t come in one size fits all.

The key message is clear:  every woman’s body is unique, and the important thing is to take care of it, accept it, and celebrate what makes us different .
