She helps me with school, she cheers for me, she shows up for my games. She’s not trying to replace you.” I felt my chest tighten—not from anger, but from the realization that my choices, even with good intentions, had affected him more than I imagined.

My son continued, “When I walked across that stage, I wanted everyone who supports me to be there.
And when I saw Dad standing alone, I felt something missing. I didn’t say anything because I didn’t want an argument. But today taught me that love doesn’t have to be limited to just one place.” His voice wasn’t accusing—just honest, sincere, and far more mature than I expected.
