The Trump administration has been pushed into issuing a fiery statement after the Commander-in-Chief appeared to slump in his chair and fall asleep in front of cameras from around the world. Officials fiercely rejected this interpretation, calling descriptions of the widely photographed moment “garbage.”

After years of labeling his predecessor in the White House “Sleepy Joe,” Donald Trump was heavily mocked on social media for seemingly closing his eyes and drifting off during an important Oval Office presentation. The event focused on the price of weight-loss medication, and California Governor Gavin Newsom quickly seized the moment with his own nickname, posting on X, “DOZY DON IS BACK.”
Now older than Biden was when he took office in 2020, Trump appeared to lose an uphill battle with his eyelids while his appointed head of Medicare services, former TV host Dr. Oz, announced plans to reduce the cost of weight-loss drugs for ordinary Americans.
“People can sleep again, because they can breathe when they go to bed,” Oz said from beside the Resolute Desk, as the president struggled to stay awake.

However, the White House has forcefully denied any allegation that Trump nodded off during the televised meeting. Officials emphasized his engagement with the topic but did not explain why his eyes appeared closed and his head leaned back against his chair.
“The President was not sleeping; in fact, he spoke throughout and took many questions from the press during this announcement which represents a historic reduction in prices for Americans on two drugs that help Americans struggling with diabetes, heart disease, obesity, and other conditions,” the sharply worded official response insisted.
If the meeting’s proposals are implemented, the monthly cost of orally administered GLP-1 weight-loss drugs will drop to $149, while injectable versions are expected to be priced at $249.

The statement, provided to CNN, then took aim at “liberal” journalists who questioned why the president appeared to completely nod off in the Oval Office. It read: “This announcement by President Trump will save a significant amount of money and countless American lives, and yet the failing, liberal media want to push a garbage narrative instead of covering it.”
This was not the only surprising incident during White House announcements last week. An unnamed pharmaceuticals executive also drew attention after suddenly collapsing in the Oval Office.
As panic broke out, photos quickly spread across social media showing Trump standing aloof while Dr. Oz and other officials hurried to the man’s aid. Health Secretary RFK Jr. was also seen scurrying out of the frame as others worked to assist the fallen executive.
Oz later confirmed that the man had recovered after receiving medical attention.
