André René Roussimoff, better known globally as André the Giant, wasn’t always a giant. As a child, he was just an ordinary boy, no different from his peers.

Everything changed when André turned twelve – he began growing rapidly. His body developed so quickly that he no longer fit into the school bus seat.

Still, his parents weren’t worried – they believed that with his size, he’d be a great help around the house.

By the age of seventeen, André had already reached a height of 6’3″ and weighed about 286 lbs. That’s when he decided to pursue wrestling – a sport that was booming in popularity at the time.

He chose the stage name “The Giant” and launched his career. His image as an unbeatable titan captivated audiences.

He easily defeated opponents and quickly rose to the top. In 1974, André was listed in the Guinness Book of World Records as the highest-paid wrestler in the world.

But behind the scenes, life wasn’t easy for André. His size required custom-made clothes and shoes.

His feet and joints were under constant stress and needed special care. Flights were also a challenge – he needed two seats and couldn’t fit in the airplane restroom.

Little is known about his personal life. He was never married but had a daughter – Robin Christensen-Roussimoff.

Their relationship wasn’t close: André rarely saw his daughter and provided little financial support. According to Robin, she had only seen her father four times by the age of twelve.

Still, the giant’s genes are evident in her appearance. Robin inherited his prominent features: a strong jawline, broad cheekbones, and small eyes.

Signs of gigantism are also seen in her build: she stands 5’11” and weighs over 220 lbs. Like her father, Robin decided to try wrestling too, continuing the legacy of her famous parent.
