The strange little girl across the street greeted me every day, and what I discovered later chilled me to the bone

😟 The strange little girl across the street greeted me every day, and what I discovered later chilled me to the bone.

Recently, new neighbors moved into our neighborhood, right across from my house. In general, I don’t really get attached to neighbors, and I almost never meet them in person.

All I knew was that these new neighbors were a woman with her little girl.

One day, I noticed that the girl, who must have been barely five years old, was greeting me from the window. She gave me a shy smile, and I responded.

I didn’t pay much attention to it and went on with my day. The next day, the same scene repeated itself, and I began to think that she was probably just seeking attention.

Days passed, and for a month, every time I passed in front of her house, she would greet me enthusiastically, as if she was waiting for a response from me. Each time I responded, she would jump for joy.

I thought that maybe this was how she behaved with everyone.

My mother had noticed her too and told me that each time she saw her, the little girl looked sad, staring out the window with a melancholic expression, as if she was waiting for someone.

It was only when she saw me that she seemed to find her smile again.

Curious and intrigued by her behavior, I decided to visit her. What I discovered broke my heart. I was in shock.

When I knocked on the door, a woman opened it.

Her gaze was surprisingly familiar, but I couldn’t remember where I had seen her before.

Then she looked at me, and something in her eyes changed.

“You… you are…” her voice trembled slightly.

Before she could finish her sentence, I heard a joyful scream coming from the back of the house.

When the little girl ran toward me, everything came rushing back to me.

Every detail of that difficult time, the separation, the pain, it all came flooding back.

The woman looked at me and said:

“I… I knew that one day you would come back, but I didn’t think it would be like this.”

Then she added: “You’re her father. You have… you have a daughter. It’s her.

I never wanted to tell you, but after our separation, I found out I was pregnant.”

My heart tightened.

It felt like everything was crashing down around me.

I had a child, a daughter I had never known, but who seemed to have always been waiting for me.
