The police found a strange old man on the street who couldn’t remember his name or address: When they finally located his house and went there, they found something horrifying inside 

— Officer, we found this man on the street today. He had no identification with him, and he doesn’t remember his address or name. Maybe he’s sick… or hiding something. What should we do?

— Nothing. I’ll handle it myself, — replied the young police officer briefly, taking the old man by the hand.

The old man was seated in an office. He looked tired and confused, but there was a strange glimmer in his eyes — perhaps worry, perhaps fear.

The officer started with simple questions:

— Where did you come from?

— I don’t remember…

— Do you have children? Relatives?

— No… nobody…

— Do you know your name?

— No…

The answers were confused, sometimes completely meaningless. It seemed as if the old man was hiding something or afraid to tell the truth. The officer became suspicious.

He requested the surveillance camera recordings from the street where the old man had been found. For hours, he studied the footage. The man was simply wandering the streets — slowly, stopping occasionally, as if he had forgotten where he was going.

All day long, the officer and his colleagues reviewed dozens of cameras, tracking every step of the old man. Finally, they managed to determine which house he had come from. The officer took the man with him — perhaps it would help jog his memory.

When they arrived at the address and knocked on the door, no one answered. The house was dark and quiet.

— Maybe he lives alone? — suggested one of the officers.

— No. Let’s check. Break the door open.

The door gave way to a heavy blow. The police went inside, and what they saw in the house shocked everyone

The officer immediately called an ambulance. At that moment, everything became clear.

The old man did indeed suffer from dementia. That day, his wife had suddenly fallen very ill. He tried to call for help, but the phone was too complicated for him. So he decided to go to the neighbors… and forgot why he had gone out in the first place.

Hours turned into a painful wandering through the streets until his strength completely gave out.

It turned out that the old man had indeed brought help. Even if it was a day late, his desperate attempt to save his wife ultimately worked.

After the incident, the officers did not remain indifferent: they collected money and hired a caregiver for the elderly couple.
