The funeral procession moved slowly…
The officer’s family, his colleagues in uniform, and beside them — Max, a German Shepherd, head lowered and eyes full of pain.
Max was no ordinary animal. He was a combat partner, a loyal friend who had accompanied the officer on dozens of operations.
Since the death of his master during a robbery under strange circumstances, Max barely ate, no longer played — he remained silent and whined.

The day of the funeral arrived. People wept, the coffin was covered with flowers.
Suddenly, Max stood up, pressed his muzzle against the coffin, growled… and barked so loudly that everyone jumped.
— “Take him away!” someone murmured in the crowd…
But the commander stared at the dog and said firmly:
— “Open the coffin!”
— “Why?”
— “OPEN IT!”
The lid was slowly lifted…
A heavy silence fell. Everyone held their breath.
Then a scream of horror rang out.

It was not the right body.
Another face, another uniform… It was not the officer.
Max growled — but this time with relief. He knew his master was alive somewhere. And he was right.
Later, it was discovered that a mistake had been made at the morgue: the labels had been switched, the bodies arrived at the same time.
The real body was found the next day and the officer was buried with full honors.

Max had stayed by his side until the very end. Loyal, attentive, loving.
He saved his master’s honor — and revealed the truth when no one else saw it.
