Owning a house is a dream for many people, not only in our country but all over the world. However, the Japanese have found an original solution to this problem. They have managed to build and sell houses for less than $2,000! The secret is… polystyrene.

According to local media, this lightweight and seemingly fragile material competes with bricks and concrete. The trick is to coat it with a fireproof compound. It takes less than 2 hours to build one of these houses, and they are expected to last over 300 years!

The polystyrene walls are finished with plaster, and the round windows are cut with an electric tool. The dome shape of the houses was chosen based on scientific research: it is more resistant to earthquakes, which are frequent in Japan.

The creators of this idea admit that not many people have bought these houses yet. Polystyrene still needs to earn people’s trust.
