During my pregnancy, my mare often placed her big ear on my belly and whinnied softly – but one day she suddenly hit me with her muzzle, and later I learned something terrible
We had our own farm, where my husband and I grew fruits and vegetables and looked after cows, chickens, pigs and sheep.
But our greatest treasure was our mare—intelligent, noble, and loyal. She was not only a valuable helper in the work, but also a true friend, almost a member of the family.
When I found out I was pregnant and that we were going to have a son, the world around me changed. I began to notice that the mare was behaving in a peculiar way.
She would come up to me, rest her big ear on my stomach as if listening. Sometimes she would whinny softly, as if laughing with joy, and touch me tenderly with her snout.
It seemed she knew more about the baby than I did. During the seven months of my pregnancy, she always stayed by my side, protecting me, watching my every step, and never leaving my side.
But one day, everything changed. The mare suddenly became nervous and aggressive. She nudged me in the stomach with her muzzle, not very hard but unpleasant. Frightened, I backed away and cried out:
— “Ouch! What are you doing?”
But she didn’t stop. Again and again, her snout and teeth moved toward my stomach, as if desperately trying to tell me something. Finally, she bit me—gently, but enough to make me gasp with fear.
I was shaking. My first thought was a terrible one: “Something has happened to the baby… The mare hurt him.”
Panicked, my husband and I immediately went to the hospital. The doctors immediately began testing us. And what they discovered shocked everyone. Continued in the first comment
It turned out that our son was developing a serious heart defect. During previous examinations, this had gone unnoticed, and no one suspected that the situation was critical.
But at that precise moment, just weeks before delivery, the baby’s condition had suddenly worsened. If we hadn’t arrived in time, the consequences would have been tragic.
— “It’s a miracle you came today,” said the doctor. “The child must be saved immediately.”
And then I remembered the mare. Her strange behavior, her desperate attempts to get my attention… She had sensed what even the doctors hadn’t seen.
After long days of anguish, tests, and care, we managed to save our baby’s life. When I got home, the first thing I did was go see my faithful mare.
She stood there calmly, her head bowed, as if waiting for me. I put my arms around her neck and rested my cheek against her warm fur.
— “Thank you, my dear. You saved my son.”
The mare whinnied softly and rested her ear on my belly, but this time gently and tenderly, as if she knew: the worst was now behind us.
