Dad told me to take cold showers using the soap he provided — i followed

My father told me to take cold showers, always saying, “You smell horrible, go take a cold shower and use the soap I gave you.” And I did, like five times a day — it was driving me mad. My mom stayed silent, which was strange since we were usually close. I couldn’t understand why my father was so insistent on this routine. I thought perhaps it was some strange new parenting tactic to improve my hygiene.

I would stand under the freezing water, shivering as I lathered up with the odd-smelling soap. The scent was strong and unfamiliar, but I trusted my dad. Maybe it was some kind of miracle soap, I thought, one that would make me smell fresh all day long. But deep down, there was an uneasy feeling I couldn’t shake off.

One day, my boyfriend, Jake, came over. We were hanging out in my room, laughing and talking, when I suddenly asked, “Do I smell bad?” I didn’t know why I asked. Maybe I just needed reassurance that this whole cold shower ordeal was worth it. Jake laughed, thinking I was joking, and headed to the bathroom to wash his hands.

A moment later, he came back with a pale look on his face, holding the soap I used to shower. “Who gave you this?! Are you taking cold showers with this?!?” he demanded, his voice tinged with panic. My blood froze. “Yeah, why?!” I replied, feeling a sudden wave of anxiety wash over me.

He started crying, “They didn’t tell you, did they?! Baby, this isn’t soap! It’s used to decontaminate before surgery!” My heart dropped into my stomach. “What?!” I exclaimed, snatching the soap from his hands and examining it more closely. The fine print on the wrapper, which I’d never bothered to read, revealed the truth. It was an antiseptic wash, meant for sterilizing skin before medical procedures.

I felt a mix of confusion, betrayal, and anger. Why would my father do this? Why wouldn’t my mother say anything? I sat down on the edge of my bed, overwhelmed by the revelation. The cold showers, the mysterious soap — it all felt like some bizarre experiment I had unknowingly been a part of.

Jake sat beside me, wrapping his arms around my shoulders. “I’m so sorry,” he said softly. “I can’t believe they didn’t tell you.”

I shook my head, trying to process everything. “Why would he make me do that?” I wondered aloud. “Was he trying to teach me a lesson about trust? Or was there some other reason?”

Jake sighed, “I don’t know, but I think you need to talk to them. Maybe there’s a reason, or maybe it’s just a misunderstanding.”

His words gave me a measure of comfort, and I knew he was right. I needed to confront my parents and get to the bottom of this strange, unsettling situation. I couldn’t continue to live in the dark, blindly following instructions without understanding their purpose.

As I prepared to speak with my parents, I realized the importance of questioning things, even when they come from people you trust. My father’s actions may have been misguided, but I hoped a conversation could shed light on his true intentions. With Jake by my side, I felt ready to uncover the truth and finally put an end to the cold shower saga.
