Authorities Clarify Misidentification After Utah Valley University Incident

When a disturbing incident involving political commentator Charlie Kirk took place at

Utah Valley University, confusion quickly spread among the crowd and across social media

. In the immediate aftermath, video footage showed an elderly man being escorted away by police, shouting loudly and drawing attention.

Many online speculated that he might have been involved, and for a brief time, misinformation spread rapidly.

Authorities later clarified that this man, identified as 71-year-old George Zinn,

was not connected to the attack. According to police documents cited by local news outlets,

Zinn admitted during questioning that he had falsely claimed responsibility.

Investigators said his actions diverted resources at a critical time,

though there was no evidence linking him to the actual incident.

Zinn now faces charges related to obstruction of justice for providing false information.

The primary focus of the investigation turned to 22-year-old Tyler Robinson,

who was identified through surveillance footage.

Police reported that Robinson turned himself in after being encouraged to do so by a family member.

He currently faces several charges, including obstruction of justice, while he undergoes a mental health evaluation in custody.

Authorities have emphasized that there is no connection between Zinn and Robinson.

Zinn, who has a history of disruptive behavior at public events, remains a separate figure in this case

. Officials say this situation serves as a reminder of how quickly rumors and incorrect information

can spread in moments of public crisis, highlighting the importance

of relying on verified updates from law enforcement and credible news sources.
