At a family celebration, I accidentally noticed my mother-in-law slipping something into my glass of juice. Sensing that something was wrong, I quietly swapped glasses with my husband, and just ten minutes later something happened that made everyone feel truly sick
At the family dinner, everything looked as usual. A set table, hot dishes, meaningless conversations, the familiar noise of the kitchen. My mother-in-law was bustling around nearby, pouring juice into the glasses, commenting on something, smiling. I was sitting next to my husband and at one point happened to glance at my mother-in-law.
She leaned closer to me, as if to adjust a napkin, and very quickly poured something into my glass of juice. The movement was almost unnoticeable, but I saw it clearly, even though no one else noticed it. I knew for sure — she had put something into my glass.
My heart tightened unpleasantly. Too many thoughts flashed through my mind at once, but I didn’t cause a scene at the table. I knew my mother-in-law would deny everything, and in the end I would be the one blamed in front of everyone.
No one noticed anything, the conversations continued, plates clinked, everyone was busy with themselves.
I waited for the moment when attention shifted to the food and quietly swapped the glasses — mine and my husband’s. He was sitting next to me, suspected nothing, and calmly took a sip. I tried to behave as usual, even though inside I was tense to the limit.
Only a few minutes passed. Everyone felt genuinely sick from what they saw, and my mother-in-law turned pale The continuation of the story can be found in the first comment
Literally five minutes passed. My husband first turned pale, then suddenly clutched his stomach and stood up from the table. He felt nauseous, dizzy, and could barely stay on his feet.
At that moment, my mother-in-law’s expression changed too, and she stared at him as if she couldn’t believe her eyes.
When my husband went to the bathroom, I silently approached her handbag that was standing on a chair. Inside was an opened packet of strong laxative powder — exactly the kind that is definitely not meant for drinks and certainly not for a family table.
Everyone understood everything without a single word. The dinner ended instantly. Later, an ambulance had to be called for my husband, while my mother-in-law sat in the kitchen repeating that she “just wanted to scare me” and “didn’t think it would go that far.”
She simply wanted me to feel sick at the table and to be humiliated in front of all the relatives. After that evening, I never again accepted food or drinks from her. And we never sat at the same table again.
