After three years together, the man I loved suggested an “open relationship” — and that very same evening he left to see another woman. That’s when I came up with the perfect revenge plan 🤔😱

Daniel and I had lived together for three years. At first, everything was intense, loud, full of passion. Then it became calm. Evenings in front of the TV, conversations about bills, weekend visits to our parents. I thought that was what mature love looked like — no storms, just stability. But as it turned out, he felt like he wasn’t living at home, but in a cage.

That evening he was acting strange. Restless, walking from room to room as if preparing for an important speech.

“We need to talk,” he said, sitting down across from me.

I already knew: good news never starts like that.

For about fifteen minutes, he talked about freedom. About how monogamy is an outdated model. How people aren’t naturally meant for just one partner. How love shouldn’t be limiting.

“I’m proposing an open relationship,” he finally said. “We stay together, but without restrictions. We can see other people at the same time. It will be better for us.”

I looked at him and understood one simple thing: he was bored. But he didn’t want to leave. Life with me was comfortable. A home, dinner, clean shirts, a calm woman by his side. He wanted excitement without losing comfort.

“So you want to date other women?” I asked.

“I want both of us to be free,” he corrected me with a serious expression. “It’s fair.”

But in his eyes, I saw something else. He was sure I didn’t need anyone and that no one would even look at me. In his mind, “freedom” was a ticket for him. For me — just a formality.

“Okay,” I said.

He was actually taken aback.

“You’re serious?”

“Absolutely.”

That same evening, he “went to see friends.” He came back at dawn smelling like another woman’s perfume and wearing a far too satisfied smile. The next day he was attentive, even washed the dishes. Apparently, he did have a conscience after all.

A week passed. He texted openly in front of me, not even hiding his screen. Now it was “allowed.” And I watched.

Then I came up with the perfect way to show him that he couldn’t treat me like that. I did something that left him furious. 😢🫣 I shared the rest of my story in the first comment 👇👇 What do you think — are open relationships normal?

Suddenly, I remembered Alex. A guy he knew from the gym. We sometimes talked in group settings. He always kept his distance. He respected our relationship, even though I could feel that he liked me.

I texted him. Nothing special. Just asked how he was doing. Then I mentioned that we now had an “open arrangement.”

“So he suggested it?” Alex asked.

“Yes. It was his idea.”

That evening, Alex invited me to dinner.

I wore the dress Daniel once called “too revealing.” I styled my hair, put on light makeup. When Daniel walked into the apartment, I was already standing by the door.

“Where are you going?” he asked.

“On a date.”

“With who?”

“With Alex.”

His face changed instantly.

“You’re serious? With someone I know?”

“What’s the problem? We agreed. Freedom for both of us.”

He didn’t answer. He just stood there, staring at me as if his world was collapsing.

The evening was easy. We just talked. Laughed. No one crossed any lines. But for the first time in a long time, I felt alive. Like an interesting woman — not a convenient piece of furniture.

When I came home, a scandal was waiting.

“How could you?” he almost hissed. “That’s humiliating!”

“How?” I asked calmly. “I’m just living by the rules you suggested.”

“That’s different!” he shouted. “I’m a man! I have needs! You’re doing this out of spite!”

And then the real truth came out:

“I suggested it to save the relationship — not so you could go out with other men!”

That was the whole truth. Freedom — for him. Loyalty — for me.

We broke up a few days later. He tried to take it all back. Said he overreacted. That we should forget the experiment. But I had already seen everything clearly.

He didn’t need a partner. He needed a comfortable safety net.

Nothing serious happened with Alex. And that wasn’t the point. He simply helped me remember who I am.

Now I’m alone. And it’s not loneliness. It’s real freedom — without double standards and without being someone’s backup plan.
