A teenager noticed a little girl sitting on the asphalt crying: he decided to approach her, but then something unexpected happened 

10-year-old Mark loved spending time at the train station. This noisy, lively corner of the city seemed special to him. Sometimes he came here with friends, but more often alone. He liked sitting on the bench by platform three, doing his homework, or just watching the trains fade into the distance, dreaming of future journeys.

That day started as usual. Mark settled into his usual spot when suddenly he noticed something strange — very close, by a lamppost, a little girl was sitting on the asphalt. Small, about four or five years old. She hugged her teddy bear tightly and was crying bitterly, paying no attention to anyone.

Mark was confused but decided to approach the girl — and then something unexpected happened  Continued in the first comment 

— Why are you crying? Are you alone?

The girl didn’t answer, only shook her head and hugged her toy even tighter. He sat down beside her:

— Are you lost? What’s your name?

— Sara… — she whispered. — I was with mom… she went to get tickets and told me to wait here. But she hasn’t come back for a long time…

Mark frowned. He had been at the station for more than half an hour but hadn’t seen any woman with a child.

— Do you know your mom’s phone number?

The girl nodded and, sobbing, dictated it.

Mark pulled out his old button phone from his backpack — his parents had given it to him “just in case.” He dialed the number. A few rings. Someone picked up.

— Hello? — a worried female voice.

— Hello. I… found your daughter. She is at the station, near platform three. She’s sitting alone and crying.

— Oh my God! — the woman almost screamed. — I just went to get tickets for a minute, and when I came back she was gone! I’m running around the station, calling security!

— She’s here. Everything’s fine, — said Mark. — I’m with her.

Within minutes, the woman came running, out of breath, with her phone in hand and tears in her eyes. She grabbed the girl in her arms, repeating, “Sweetheart, forgive me… forgive me…”

When things calmed down a bit, the woman looked at Mark:

— Thank you. I left her for just a second — and she must have gone the wrong way… It’s awful. If it weren’t for you… If she had gone onto the tracks… Thank you, you’re a hero.

Mark just shrugged. He felt a little awkward but inside he had a new, warm feeling.
