A man took his dog into the forest and tied her to a tree, hoping to get rid of her. But no one could imagine what the wolf would do to the dog 

The dog was everything to her owner. Once, he had chosen her himself as a puppy, taught her her first commands, and rejoiced when she ran toward him across the field, her tail wagging. They went hunting together, returned home together, and she always slept by his door. He called her his pride.

Over time, everything changed. The owner realized that puppies could bring in money. At first, it seemed harmless. Then the litters began to come too often. The dog grew thinner, more exhausted, lying in the corner more and more frequently and breathing heavily. The veterinarian said plainly: if this continued, she wouldn’t survive.

The owner didn’t like those words. Instead of stopping, he grew irritated. The dog no longer brought him joy; she had become a problem. And problems, he was used to solving quickly.

That day, he led the animal deep into the forest. He walked in silence, without looking back. The dog, as always, was happy about the walk and didn’t understand why her owner wasn’t talking to her. When he stopped, tied her to a tree, and walked away, she first thought it was a game.

The dog waited. Then she began pulling at the leash. Then she started whining.

By evening, she was already howling. She called out, her voice breaking, jerking so hard that the chain cut into her neck. The leaves rustled, it grew cold and dark. No one came.

When the sun was almost gone, a gray wolf emerged from the depths of the forest. He walked slowly, cautiously. He stopped a few steps away and looked at the dog. Not with a growl or bared teeth. He simply looked.

The dog froze. She expected an attack, but she wasn’t afraid, because the worst had already happened to her.

She expected the attack. She expected pain. But the wolf did not growl or show his teeth. He slowly circled her, sniffed the air, carefully examined the chain, the tree, and the ground around them. Then he lay down a short distance away without taking his eyes off her.

Night fell quickly. The forest came alive. Somewhere in the distance, a howl echoed, then another. Smaller predators approached the tree, drawn by the scent of the weakened dog.

But each time someone came closer, the wolf stood up, placed himself between them and her, and growled softly. That was enough to make the intruders retreat.

The wolf did not touch her. He did not come too close. He simply stayed nearby.

The dog no longer howled. She lay there, breathing heavily, and from time to time lifted her head to check if he was still there. And the wolf was there. All night.

At dawn, people entered the forest. They were searching for signs of a wild animal and heard a faint whimper. When they came closer, they saw a strange sight: a tied dog and a gray wolf standing in front of her like a guard.

The people froze. The wolf looked at them calmly, without fear. Then he slowly stepped back, walked deeper into the forest, and disappeared among the trees.

The dog was untied. She was alive only because, that night, someone chose not to be a predator.
