A man rescued an injured gorilla from the forest: after many years, they met again, and what the wild animal did shocked everyone
A man rescued an injured gorilla from the forest when it was still a tiny baby. It was lying in the wet grass, motionless, with a wound on its leg. The baby was barely breathing. The man couldn’t pass by—he carefully wrapped it in his raincoat and brought it home.
He cared for the baby, changing its bandages, bottle-feeding it, warming it by the fireplace, and talking to it as if it were a child.
The gorilla quickly became attached to its savior, and he to it. They lived together for several months, and the gorilla gradually grew—strong, powerful, but with surprisingly kind eyes.
However, keeping wild animals as pets was prohibited by law. One day, neighbors noticed a large animal in their window and reported it.
The next day, animal control officers arrived at the man’s home. He begged them not to take the animal, insisting it wouldn’t harm anyone, but the decision had already been made.

The gorilla was taken away, leaving the old man in his empty house. He sat for a long time by the empty cage, stroking the old rope the gorilla had once played with, and cried, unable to come to terms with his loss.
Years passed. The gorilla was transported to a local zoo, where it quickly adapted to its new surroundings. The keepers were amazed at how intelligent and calm it was—it never showed aggression, always observing people with a special interest.
Meanwhile, the old man was diagnosed with brain cancer. The disease was progressing rapidly, and doctors gave him no chance—a month, maybe two. He barely got out of bed, ate poorly, and spoke poorly, but one thought haunted him: he wanted to see his friend, the gorilla, one last time.
His story was written about in the local newspaper, and the zoo management, deeply moved, decided to fulfill his final request.
On the day of the meeting, the old man was brought to the zoo on a stretcher, covered with a blanket. He was barely breathing, his eyes half-closed, but he was happy. The keepers opened the gate and carefully led him inside the enclosure. The gorilla sat in the corner, his back turned.
When she heard a soft cough, she turned around. For a few seconds, she simply stared at the man, as if in disbelief. Then she slowly approached, her paws heavy. The keepers held their breath.
They were sure the gorilla wouldn’t remember the old man, after so many years had passed, and so they kept tranquilizers at the ready, just in case.
The gorilla approached the old man, bowed its head, and suddenly did something that shocked everyone. Continued in the first comment
The gorilla carefully touched his hand, sniffed it, then made a low, drawn-out sound, like a moan, and suddenly hugged him with both paws.
She didn’t squeeze—she simply held the man close, as if afraid of losing him again. Her eyes glistened, her breathing became rapid, and she growled softly, as if she were crying.
The old man raised his hand, stroked her head, and smiled faintly.
No one could hold back their tears. The gorilla sat next to him, not letting go, rocking back and forth, making soft, almost human sounds—as if talking to him.
A few minutes later, the old man closed his eyes, and the workers realized he had fallen asleep forever.
The gorilla sat nearby for a long time without moving, and when the staff tried to take the body away, she did not let them – she growled, defending it, until she was sure that it was carefully removed.
