In the small Polish town of Lubaczów, construction engineer Krzysztof Kopeć learned about the elderly woman living under very uncomfortable conditions.
The 80-year-old woman lived in a dilapidated house in the middle of the forest, with no electricity, no plumbing, no amenities.
When Krzysztof and his wife, an architect by profession, visited her for the first time, they were shocked by the condition of the house. The house looked more like a fairy-tale hut.
The floor was collapsing, the walls were drafty, and the tiny window barely let in any light. Inside, there was dim light, moisture hid in the corners, and the furniture seemed like it could fall apart at the slightest touch.
The couple brought the grandmother food, clothes, and a warm blanket. But, seeing her difficult living conditions, they realized that a single visit wouldn’t be enough.
Krzysztof and his wife decided to take action. They created a detailed renovation plan and posted a request for help on social media.
The grandmother’s story spread quickly across Poland and even beyond its borders. People responded immediately — some sent money, others offered building materials.
Within a few days, a team of like-minded people formed.
Work began right away. Contractors insulated the walls, replaced the roof, and laid new flooring. Volunteers helped with the wiring, brought necessary materials, and brought hot tea and homemade baked goods for the builders.
During the renovation, the grandmother stayed with neighbors. When she was finally told that she could return, she couldn’t believe her eyes.
The grandmother looked inside, and tears streamed down her cheeks. It was no longer her old house, but a real cozy corner, full of light and warmth.
