A 3-year-old boy and his dog fell asleep cuddled together on the couch: to the parents this scene seemed very touching – until the next morning, when they entered the room and saw something terrible 

Since the boy’s birth, he and his German shepherd had been inseparable. They ran around the yard, rolled in the grass, played ball, and later watched cartoons together.

The dog patiently allowed the child to pull its ears, climb on its back, and only wagged its tail, showing that this was truly his best friend.

For the parents, it was happiness: their child was always supervised and in a good mood, and the dog was a loyal protector and companion.

But one day, tired after playing, the boy and the dog fell asleep right on the couch. The boy hugged the dog tightly, pressing his cheek against its fur.

The parents peeked into the room and smiled: the sight was tender and peaceful. They even took a picture of the moment and went to bed, certain that everything was fine.

During the night, the mother woke up, went to check – and indeed, the boy was still sleeping calmly, the dog beside him, warmed by his arms. But in the morning, when she went to wake her son, she was horrified by what she saw  Continuation in the first comment  

The boy’s throat had swollen badly, his lips had turned blue, and his breathing was labored. It was a severe allergic reaction – caused by prolonged contact with the dog’s fur and saliva.

The child was saved only by a miracle and thanks to the parents calling the ambulance in time.

Later, doctors explained: even if the animal is clean, vaccinated, and well cared for, allergies in children can appear suddenly and with extreme severity.

In young children, the airways are very narrow, and even a slight swelling can lead to suffocation. That’s why it’s dangerous to let a child sleep all night pressed against a pet.

The parents had to admit that love and friendship are wonderful, but their child’s health is more important than anything else.

From then on, they never again let their son and the dog sleep together without supervision, and they advised other families to:

• test children regularly for allergies,
• keep the pet’s fur clean,
• and never leave small children alone with pets, even the kindest and gentlest ones.

Sometimes a small mistake can cost far too much.
