Big Update After FBI Raids John Bolton’s Properties

Federal agents recently searched former National Security Adviser John Bolton’s Bethesda home and Washington office, reigniting a long-dormant investigation into alleged mishandling of classified materials. The renewed interest was sparked by intelligence from a foreign spy service, reviewed by U.S. agencies under the Biden administration. Prosecutors obtained search warrants after presenting evidence suggesting Bolton may have retained sensitive information, including intercepted communications.

Though no charges have been filed, the Justice Department’s move signals a serious escalation. FBI Director Kash Patel stated on social media that “NO ONE is above the law,” while Deputy Director Dan Bongino emphasized that public corruption would not be tolerated. This follows a 2020 attempt by the Trump administration to block Bolton’s memoir, The Room Where It Happened, over concerns it revealed classified content—a concern partially validated by a federal judge who still allowed its release.

The investigation had been quiet until recently, when intercepted emails suggested Bolton had used classified content in unsecure communications. CIA Director John Ratcliffe had previously briefed Patel on the matter during Trump’s presidency. Bolton is now reportedly working with defense attorney Abbe Lowell, who has represented other high-profile clients under federal scrutiny.

Trump has continued to criticize Bolton, calling him “not a smart guy” and “possibly very unpatriotic.” The searches have led to speculation that Trump may be influencing federal probes into his political critics. However, no evidence has been presented linking Trump directly to this specific action.

The FBI has not disclosed what materials, if any, were seized. The warrants remain sealed, and officials have not confirmed whether Bolton will face indictment. Still, the probe raises questions about how aggressively the government will pursue former officials over leaks and retention of classified materials.

For now, the investigation is ongoing, with Bolton’s legal team preparing for possible legal action.
