The criminals decided to rob the house of a lonely elderly woman, but at her home they were met with a very unpleasant surprise. 

The criminals had been watching the neighborhood for several days. They observed every movement, recorded when the lights went on and off, who went out and who came in. Their target was simple — a house at the end of the street, old, peeling, with faded blue window frames. An elderly woman lived there, whom few people knew about. But the thieves knew more than they should.

The neighbors had foolishly revealed that the old woman had a son who lived far away but sent her money every month. She didn’t trust banks and hid the bills under her mattress. “Old school,” they said. That was the last straw — too easy a target.

At night, fully equipped, wearing black masks and gloves, the thieves approached the house. They didn’t want to risk the door — too noisy. They decided to break in through an old window that, according to their observations, hadn’t been properly closed for a long time. The break-in took just a few minutes. Everything was going according to plan.

But the moment before they climbed inside, they noticed something strange and deeply regretted their action.  Continued in the first comment 

The house looked dark, as it should at night, but deep in the hallway there was some movement. One of them stopped, looked closely — and froze. Eyes were staring at him from the darkness. Large, calm, confident. Not human. Of an animal.

In the next second, everything happened too fast.

From the hallway, with a furious growl, a huge Alabai leapt at them. The dog raced across the wooden floor with incredible speed and was at the window in seconds. One of the thieves failed to react in time — he fell backward, the other ran away but stumbled.

The old woman, awakened by the noise, did not panic. She grabbed the phone and called the police. “Yes, I have thieves. But don’t worry, the dog is already dealing with them,” she said calmly into the phone.

By the time the patrol arrived, one thief lay on the ground with a torn leg, the other sat in a corner pressed against the wall, afraid to move.

The huge Alabai stood between them like a guardian, making no sound, but every look said the same: one more step — and you will regret it.

Later it turned out that the son of this woman, an officer at a cynological center, had given her this dog after the death of her father. “Let him protect you, Mom,” he said then. And the dog lived up to the trust.

The course of events shocked even the police. They expected to find a frightened old woman — but found a hostess calmly offering tea to the officers while at her feet lay the hero of that night — the mighty and faithful Alabai.
