A pack of wolves surrounded the bus, but the predators did not attack: the passengers watched the wild animals in horror, yet what happened next left everyone in shock 

The bus moved along the road confidently, yet cautiously, as if it sensed that today was not a day for mistakes. The wheels rolled slowly over the packed snow, sometimes slipping slightly on icy patches, and the driver immediately corrected the steering, not allowing the vehicle to skid. Outside, a real winter storm was raging. Snow fell like a solid wall, and the wind howled so fiercely it seemed it could tear off the roof and carry it into the white void.

Inside, it was warm, but people still sat in their coats, wrapped in scarves. The windows were fogged up, with icy patterns forming on the glass. Some stared outside, trying to make out the road, others simply waited silently to reach the nearest settlement.

The driver — a man in his fifties with a tired face and strong hands — drove slowly and with focus. He had been traveling these roads for years and knew that in winter they do not forgive mistakes. Especially in weather like this.

But suddenly he narrowed his eyes.

Ahead, through the curtain of snow, something was moving.

At first, he thought it was just snowdrifts being blown across the road. Then he assumed it might be dogs. But a second later, a cold chill ran down his spine.

These were not dogs.

— No way… — he muttered quietly to himself.

The shapes became clearer. First one. Then another. Then more. And more. Gray, elongated silhouettes slowly stepped onto the road and stopped right in front of the bus.

Wolves. Not one or two. Dozens.

The driver slammed on the brakes. The bus slid slightly, the wheels screeched on the ice, and it stopped just a few meters from the pack.

Silence instantly filled the bus.

— What happened?.. — a woman from the back asked quietly.

But no one answered. Because everyone already understood.

People began to stand up, lean toward the windows, wipe the fogged glass with their sleeves. And in the next moment, a dull, restrained fear spread through the bus.

— Wolves… — someone whispered.

The pack stood right in front of them. And not only there.

While the passengers looked forward, wolves began appearing on the sides and behind as well. They moved slowly, almost silently, stepping softly through the snow like shadows. Their eyes glimmered in the gray light, they did not growl or lunge.

They simply surrounded the bus. As if they knew exactly what they were doing.

— They’re going to attack… — a man by the window said with a trembling voice.

— Close the doors! — a woman shouted.

— They’ll break the windows… — someone else whispered.

The driver gripped the steering wheel so tightly his fingers turned white. He didn’t move, just stared ahead, trying to understand what was happening.

It was strange.

The wolves were not behaving as usual. They were not restless, did not bare their teeth, did not try to attack. They just stood there, as if waiting for something.

They came almost right up to the bus, but they didn’t even look at the people inside. They were looking… to the side. The driver frowned.

— Wait… — he said quietly, leaning closer to the windshield.

Through the snow, a little off the road, he noticed something dark against the white background. At first, it looked like a pile of branches or debris. But then the wind calmed for a second, and the silhouette became clearer.

A person.

— There’s someone lying there… — the driver whispered.

The passengers froze. He quickly wiped the glass with his sleeve to see better. Yes. A man.

He was lying on his side, almost covered in snow, motionless.

— Oh my God… — a woman exhaled.

— Is he alive? — someone asked.

The driver didn’t answer. He was looking at the wolves. And suddenly everything fell into place. They had not surrounded the bus to attack. They had surrounded it to stop it. To keep it from passing by. To make sure someone noticed the one who could no longer stand.

At that moment, one of the wolves slowly approached the man lying on the ground and stopped beside him, as if pointing — there he is.

And then a new wave of emotions swept through the bus.

But it was no longer fear. It was shock.
