“This table is for our important guests”: a young waiter tried to throw an elderly woman out of the restaurant, without even realizing how this act would turn against him 

The young waiter noticed the woman immediately as soon as he stepped out onto the terrace. At a table with a “Reserved” sign, where the most important guests usually sat, an elderly woman in glasses and a worn coat had quietly seated herself. She held a book in her hands and looked like a homeless person.

The waiter frowned. There was very little time left before the important guests arrived, and he absolutely did not need any extra problems right now.

He quickly approached her, leaned slightly forward, and, without even trying to hide his irritation, said:

— This is not a cheap diner. This table is for special guests. You must have made a mistake.

The woman slowly raised her head and looked at him calmly.

— No, I didn’t make a mistake. I know where I am.

That only made him angrier. The waiter looked her up and down, lingering on her old coat.

— I don’t think you understand. Wealthy people come here. If you had money, you would at least look the part.

The woman said nothing. She simply closed her book but did not stand up.

The waiter felt his patience running out.

— Vacate the table. It’s reserved.

— All right, — she said calmly. — I can move to another table.

The waiter smirked.

— There are no other places for you here either. You homeless people are all the same: you come, order, and then disappear without paying. This is not a soup kitchen for vagrants. Get out.

The waiter openly pointed toward the door, not hiding his contempt.

The restaurant manager hurried over to the table. His face changed instantly as soon as he saw the woman.

— Ma’am… you’re already here? Why didn’t you inform us? We would have prepared everything!

The woman smiled slightly.

— I just wanted to see how everything works.

The manager immediately turned to the waiter, and there was no trace of softness left in his voice.

— Do you even realize who you’re talking to? This is the owner of the entire chain.

The waiter’s face turned pale. He was confused, the words stuck in his throat.

— Set the table immediately, — the manager continued.

But the woman stopped him with a slight gesture of her hand and looked at the waiter again.

— That won’t be necessary, — she said calmly. — He no longer works here.

He tried to say something, began to stammer, to apologize, but she didn’t even let him finish.

— In my restaurant, we don’t judge people by their clothes. True wealth is not in a coat. I, for example, prefer to invest in the business, not in appearance.

She paused for a moment and then added more coldly:

— You’re dismissed.

The waiter stood there, unable to believe what was happening. Just a minute ago, he felt like he was in control, and now he had lost his job because of a few arrogant words.

And the woman calmly picked up her book again, as if nothing unusual had happened.
