A man found an old, worn-out armchair in a junkyard and brought it home. When he opened the chair and saw what was inside, everyone was shocked.

The old man always had one habit — every morning he would walk past the garbage containers. He said it made “the day start well.” But in reality, he also enjoyed seeing if anyone had thrown away something useful.

Over the years, he had found old lamps, chairs, and even small cabinets there, which he later repaired with his own hands.

That day, as usual, he was walking his usual route when he noticed an old, worn-out armchair near the large garbage bins. It was quite heavy and dusty, the fabric was torn in places, but the frame seemed sturdy.

He approached, walked around it several times, pressed on the wood with his hand, and thought:

— I’ll fix it a little — and it can still serve.

Since the chair was quite heavy, he had to drag it for a long time and slowly roll it all the way home. On the way, a few neighbors saw him and asked in surprise:

— Why do you need this? Why are you dragging such an old thing?

He replied with a smile:

— Old can always become new. 

At home, his wife first looked at the man with disapproval, seeing him bring in the chair.

— Brought something from the trash again? — she said.

But the man had already started working. He flipped the chair, took his tools, and began disassembling the wooden part of the seat to see what condition it was in inside.

At one point, he lifted the wooden seat with a screwdriver… and what he saw inside shocked both of them at the same time.

Inside the chair, in a secret wooden compartment, thick stacks of money were neatly arranged. They lay one on top of the other, side by side. Green, red, and variously colored bills, carefully tied with rubber bands.

The man stared for a few seconds, unable to believe his eyes.

— Come look… — he whispered to his wife.

The wife came closer, peered inside, and immediately covered her mouth with her hand.

The chair’s secret compartment was filled with a large sum of money. There were dozens of stacks — so many that the entire wooden space was completely packed with them. It seemed someone had been storing money there for years without telling anyone.

For several minutes, the room was silent.

The old, worn-out chair, which someone had simply thrown away… actually hid a small fortune. And the elderly couple still couldn’t believe that all of this ended up in their home.
