A man returned from abroad after two years, and when he saw how his wife was treating their daughter, he did something that shocked everyone.

After two years of working abroad, the man was finally returning home.

He had not left of his own will: accumulated debts, failed business deals — everything piled up at once.

Abroad he worked day and night: on construction sites, and sometimes at night as a security guard — all for one reason, to provide for his family.

With every money transfer he sent, he convinced himself that everything at home was fine, that his daughter was growing up in peace and safety.

After two years, having earned enough money to no longer have any problems and to fully pay off his debts, he decided to return to his homeland and continue life with his family.

Before returning, he remembered that a few days before leaving, he had transferred the apartment to his daughter’s name. All the documents were arranged so that, whatever happened, this house would always belong to her.

That day everyone was smiling: the second wife promised to take care of the child and the elderly mother, and the daughter hugged him and did not want to let go. Leaving these memories behind, he headed home. 

He opened the door quietly, without ringing. The apartment was the same, but inside he immediately felt a strange tension.
And then he saw it.

His daughter — on her knees on the cold floor, with a rag and a bucket in her hands, was cleaning the floor.

She was cleaning, and in the living room stood the wife and the mother. In the mother’s eyes were shame and helplessness, and on the wife’s face — cold indifference and self-assurance; in a raised tone, she ordered the girl to clean the whole house.

The father froze when he saw all this. And while the wife tried to justify what was happening, he did something that shocked everyone.

He approached, knelt next to his daughter, and took the rag from her hands.

— Stand up, — he said calmly, but his voice trembled.

The girl raised her eyes and only then realized that her father had returned. In her eyes was neither joy nor surprise — only fear, as if she had done something wrong.

The man stood up and turned to his wife. The silence was heavy.

— Is this house yours? — he asked.

The wife tried to say something, but he continued, already firmly:

— This house is in my daughter’s name. And you were a guest here.

Without raising his voice, without humiliating, he said the most important thing: he would never tolerate such treatment of his child. That same day, he asked his wife to pack her things and leave the apartment. No arguments, no explanations. Period.

Then he returned to his daughter and hugged her just as he did two years ago at the airport.

— Never again, — he whispered.

That evening, the apartment became for the first time truly what he had worked two years in a foreign country for — a safe home for his daughter.
