A man, walking past one of the city’s most famous shopping centers, noticed a suitcase for sale and bought it. But when he got home and opened it, he was shocked by what he saw inside.

Every morning he woke up early. The man was convinced that the best way to stay healthy was long walks, so he had developed the habit of leaving the house and walking for quite a while through the streets of the city.

He walked calmly, observing the city’s activity, the people, the shop windows. That morning began the same way.

As he strolled, he came across an open, old market located next to one of the city’s most famous shopping centers. There, one could always find something interesting: old clocks, radios, cameras, suitcases.

The man usually just looked at the items and walked past, but that day his attention was drawn to a large, worn brown suitcase sitting on a table.

He stopped and began examining it carefully. The leather was cracked in places, the metal corners were old, but the suitcase still seemed sturdy. He lightly touched the handle with his hand. The seller — a middle-aged man — noticed his interest and approached.

— Do you like it? — he asked, smiling.
— Old, but well preserved, — said the man, turning the suitcase and listening to the price. He thought to himself that he absolutely had to buy this suitcase.

The man remembered that he didn’t actually have a suitcase at home, and this one seemed reliable enough. He paid, took the suitcase, and continued his morning walk. He walked for a long time through the streets, holding the suitcase by the handle with one hand.

However, after some time, he became tired. 

— That’s enough for today, — he thought, and headed home.

At home, the man entered without taking off his coat, approached the armchair in the living room, and without thinking, dropped the suitcase onto the chair. As soon as the suitcase fell, a horribly loud noise came from inside. It sounded as if something heavy had hit inside.

The man froze, approached slowly, lifted the suitcase, and felt that it was strangely heavy inside. His heart beat faster.

He slowly opened the locks, and what he saw inside filled him with horror.

Inside the suitcase was an object wrapped in old, worn fabric. When he carefully unfolded the fabric, a horrifying sight appeared before him — a human skull. But that was not all.

Next to the skull lay several dark, dried bones… and underneath them — an old, rusted knife, which still appeared to have traces of dark blood.

The man stepped back, paralyzed with fear, and called the police. The police arrived, took the suitcase, and headed to the shopping center.

Upon approaching the same seller and finding out how the suitcase had ended up with him, they learned that two hours earlier a man had brought the suitcase and sold it for a low price.

The police reviewed the security camera footage and audio recordings and realized that the seller was not at fault — he had simply bought the suitcase without looking inside and sold it in the same way.

Both the seller and the elderly man learned a lesson from this story: when buying any item, it must always be carefully examined.
