The wife came home from work earlier than usual and caught her husband with his mistress right in bed: but instead of tears and scandals, she simply smiled and went to the kitchen to prepare breakfast for the “lovers” 

The husband and his mistress had no idea that this breakfast would stay with them for the rest of their lives 

Anna returned from work early in the morning after her shift. The day had been exhausting, and she decided not to stop by the store but to go straight home. She climbed the stairs, opened the door, and immediately felt that something was wrong in the apartment.

The hallway was unnaturally quiet. And at the same time — not empty. Next to Mark’s shoes stood unfamiliar high-heeled shoes. A light-colored women’s coat was hanging on the hook.

From the bedroom came muffled noises, a short laugh, the familiar creak of the bed. A sweet scent of unfamiliar perfume lingered in the air. She knew for sure it wasn’t hers.

Anna stopped by the door. Light from the room spilled onto the carpet. Behind the door, чужое дыхание could be heard.

She opened the bedroom door and froze.

There were two people in their bed. Her husband and an unfamiliar woman. Half-dressed, disheveled, far too close to each other. A piece of jewelry glimmered on the woman’s neck. Mark turned pale when he saw his wife. The mistress, ashamed, tried to cover herself with the sheet.

Anna looked at them calmly, without shouting, without tears, not even with anger.

“I’ll be in the kitchen,” she said evenly. “Get dressed and come out. We need to talk.”

In the kitchen, Anna turned on the light, took out the food and a knife. The blade tapped rhythmically against the cutting board.

The husband and his mistress did not yet know that this breakfast would stay with them for the rest of their lives.  The continuation of the story can be found in the comments 

Anna chopped the vegetables slowly and carefully. The knife tapped steadily, almost soothingly. Mark and the woman sat at the table, tense, not understanding why they had been called into the kitchen.

Anna placed the plates in front of them and sat down opposite.

“Let’s have breakfast first,” she said calmly. “I’m terribly hungry after my shift. Then we’ll talk about everything.”

Mark and the mistress relaxed. Mark even smirked, as if everything suddenly seemed almost normal. He picked up his fork and began to eat greedily.

“You always cooked well,” he said.

“Yes,” Anna nodded. “But I have bad news. This is your farewell breakfast.”

Mark looked up at her.

“What do you mean? Are you filing for divorce?”

“Not only that,” Anna said and suddenly smiled strangely.

Mark put another bite into his mouth. And suddenly he froze. He swallowed, coughed, and turned pale.

“What…” he grabbed his throat. “What did you put in this?”

Anna looked at him calmly.

“Nothing dangerous,” she said. “But you know yourself how much of a panic-prone person you are.”

His breathing quickened. The woman beside him jumped to her feet.

“You have an allergy,” she whispered. “Are you feeling unwell?”

Mark began to choke with fear, no longer understanding what he was really feeling and what was only in his head.

Anna stood up.

“By the way, I put the medication away,” she said indifferently. “Don’t worry. It’s not poison.”

She walked to the door and turned around.

“You will remember for the rest of your life how you ate this breakfast and thought you were about to die. And I will remember how you betrayed me.”

Anna walked out and slammed the door. The mistress barely managed to call an ambulance, and Mark was taken to the hospital with an allergic reaction to pepper, which had somehow ended up in the food.
