The children forced their mother to sell the house and divided the money among themselves, then threw her out onto the street — but they had no idea what their mother would do or what would happen very soon 

Antonina sat by the window for a long time, looking at the yard where she had lived almost her entire life. The decision had not been made by her. The children said it plainly: the house had to be sold because everyone needed money. She tried to object but quickly realized that arguing was pointless. As a mother, she could not say no. They promised her that she would not be left alone and that there would always be a place for her.

Antonina packed in silence. She took only the essentials: two suitcases of clothes and an old bag with documents and small personal items. The furniture, photographs, dishes, and things accumulated over decades were left behind in the house. None of it mattered to anyone anymore. The house was sold quickly. The money was divided among them, while they assured their mother that life would now be easier for everyone.

At first, Antonina was taken to her daughter’s place. In the apartment, she was given a small room with no comfort. Every day she heard reproaches, remarks, and dissatisfaction. She was reminded that she was in the way, taking up space, and causing inconvenience. After a few months, she was taken to her son’s place. It was even worse there. The son’s wife did not hide her irritation, and Antonina herself felt unwanted and unnecessary.

The children began discussing among themselves what to do next. The conversations were harsh, as if they were not talking about their mother but about an old object that needed to be thrown away. Antonina heard everything and understood everything. One morning, she simply left. She did not leave a note, did not take anything extra, and did not say goodbye.

Antonina left quietly, just as she had lived in the last few months. She did not make scenes and did not try to prove anything to anyone. One day, she simply walked out of her son’s apartment and never returned.

The children decided that their mother was offended and would eventually show up on her own, so they did not search for her for long.

But even before she disappeared, Antonina had managed to do something no one knew about. When the conversations about selling the house were just beginning, she went to a lawyer on the advice of an acquaintance.

At that time, she felt ashamed and afraid, but even greater was the fear of being left without a roof over her head. She signed a power of attorney, kept the documents, and told everything exactly as it was: the pressure, the persuasion, and the promises that were never kept.

The lawyer filed the lawsuit after the house was sold. The court case lasted several months. The children were sure it was just a formality and that the case would be closed quickly.

They did not even attend the first hearing. But the court ruled in Antonina’s favor. It was proven that her consent to the sale had been given under pressure and without real guarantees of housing and care.

The decision came as a shock to the children. The sale was declared invalid, they were ordered to return the money, and the house was returned to its rightful owner. When the children learned this, they tried urgently to find their mother, but Antonina did not answer calls or messages.

She returned to her house later, after the trial. She walked slowly through the rooms, opened the windows, and for the first time in a long while felt that she was finally back where she belonged.
