I accidentally saw my daughter-in-law throw an old brown suitcase into a deep lake: it immediately seemed very strange to me, and when I pulled the suitcase out of the water, I was horrified by what was inside 😲🫣

I was on my way home after a completely routine medical checkup. Nothing serious, just a regular visit, so I was sitting calmly in the back seat of the taxi, looking out the window. At one point, on a nearby street, I noticed a car I recognized well. It was my daughter-in-law Maya’s car.

That immediately made me suspicious. Their home and her workplace were in a completely different direction, and this area was remote and almost deserted. At first I thought I might be mistaken, but the license plate matched. To clear up my doubts, I decided to call her.

— Maya, hi dear, where are you?

She answered almost immediately. Her voice was strange, tense, as if she were trying to sound calm but wasn’t succeeding.

— I’m at home. I want to bake a cake, — she said.

Instinctively, I looked out the window again and saw her car a little farther ahead. At that moment, I realized she was lying. I was about to tell her that I could see her car, but I felt something unpleasant inside and decided not to give myself away.

— Great, then I’ll come by this evening, — I said as if nothing were wrong.

— Okay, I’ll be waiting, — she replied and hung up almost immediately.

I put my phone away and asked the taxi driver to follow that car. At that moment, I was sure she had a lover and was going to a secret meeting.

We drove for about ten minutes. Maya’s car turned toward an old bridge by the lake and stopped. It was a place people rarely visited, especially during the day. I saw her get out of the car, look around, and open the trunk.

With difficulty, she pulled out a large, old brown suitcase. Maya looked around once more, walked to the edge of the bridge, and threw the suitcase into the water with a sharp motion.

I sat in the taxi and couldn’t understand what had just happened. If it was just trash, why drive so far and throw it into the lake instead of a regular dumpster? It made no sense.

I waited until Maya drove away. Then I paid the taxi driver and went down to the water. The suitcase had already been carried away by the current, but I managed to spot it near the shore. I went into the water, grabbed the handle, and with great effort pulled it onto the land.

When I opened the suitcase, I was overcome with real terror at what I saw inside 😲😱 Continued in the first comment 👇👇

Inside were Maya’s clothes. I recognized them immediately: a house sweater and pants she wore often. The fabric was wet, heavy, and in places soaked with dark red stains that the water had not managed to wash away. These were not accidental stains.

Under the clothes, wrapped in a kitchen towel, was a knife. An ordinary knife, nothing special, the same one she uses to cut vegetables, meat, and bread when we all gather as a family. I had seen it hundreds of times in their kitchen. And that was exactly what was most frightening.

At that moment, it became clear that this was not about a quarrel, a secret, or a foolish mistake. She was trying to get rid of evidence. The suitcase was thrown into the lake not out of fear, but with cold calculation, hoping the water would hide everything.

I stood on the shore, realizing that I now knew too much. If I went to the police, my son’s family would be destroyed, and he would never forgive me. If I stayed silent, I would become an accomplice to a crime, even if I had done nothing with my own hands.

I closed the suitcase and stared at the water for a long time, understanding that there was no way back. Any choice I made would be wrong, and I would have to live with the consequences.
