“You still baked my favorite potato pies!” the husband said when he came home from his mistress; but the moment he took a bite, he turned pale, because inside the pie an unexpected “surprise” from his wife was waiting for him 

Anna carefully slid the baking tray into the preheated oven, brushed the flour from her hands, and glanced at the kitchen clock. Today everything had to turn out perfectly. The potato pies had to rise, turn golden, and look exactly the way Mark loved them.

Once, Anna lived a calm and simple life. She had grown used to loneliness and had almost come to terms with the idea that it would always be that way. But everything changed on the day a tall man with a confident gaze walked into a job interview. He radiated strength and certainty. To her own surprise, Anna felt something stir inside her.

From that moment on, her life took a completely different path. Love, marriage, the feeling that everything had finally fallen into place. She was happy and didn’t even notice how she had completely lost herself in this man.

But two years later, Mark packed his things and said he was leaving on a business trip for just one month. That month stretched into an entire year. He hardly called, wrote rarely and coldly. Anna waited, made excuses for him, believed. Until one day an acquaintance casually told her that he had seen Mark in the city. Not alone. He was calmly walking through shops with another woman and hadn’t gone anywhere at all.

Only then did Anna realize that she had been deceived all that time. She could have made a scene, called him, demanded explanations. But she didn’t. She decided to wait. Revenge loves silence.

Another year passed, and suddenly the phone rang. It was Mark. He said the business trip was over and that he was coming home. At the end of the conversation, he added casually:

— Bake your potato pies. I’ve missed them.

Mark returned home confident and calm. He sat down on the stool, crossed one leg over the other, and looked around the kitchen as if he had never left. Anna greeted him warmly, without letting on with a single word that she knew the truth.

— I see you did bake the pies after all, — he said, nodding toward the neat pile of golden pastries.

He smiled as if nothing had happened, as if there had been no lies, no disappearance, no other woman. He walked over to the table, picked up one of the pies, and took a big bite. The very next second his face went pale and his eyes filled with horror. He had definitely not expected such revenge.  Continued in the first comment 

That morning, Anna had already set the oven to the right temperature, kneaded the dough, and calmly prepared the filling. She did everything with the same care as before. Except that today, in one of the pies, there was no mashed potato. Inside were tiny shards of glass.

When Mark bit into it, he immediately realized something was wrong. He didn’t manage to swallow, spat the piece out sharply, but it was already too late. His mouth filled with red liquid, his tongue and gums were cut, and the pain was sharp and burning.

He grabbed the table, coughing, trying to understand what was happening.

Anna looked at him calmly.

— This is revenge for your infidelities and your lies, — she said in an even voice. — Next time you decide to deceive someone, remember this pain.

Mark tried to say something, but only a hoarse sound came from his mouth. He reached for the phone, but Anna had already turned away. She took the suitcase she had packed in advance, put on her coat, and walked to the door.

She didn’t call an ambulance. She didn’t say another word. Anna left forever, leaving Mark in the kitchen with pain in his mouth and a memory he would carry for the rest of his life.
