Beneath it, a bulletin board was overflowing with notes, each one shimmering under the store’s fluorescent lights. Hearing this, my son grinned up at me, his face full of pride. “You’re famous, Mommy!”

I laughed, ruffling his hair. “Not famous, just someone who did what anyone should do when they can.”

A young man helping an elderly gentleman reach a jar on a high shelf, a woman sharing her coupons with a fellow shopper, and employees cheerfully assisting customers.
