The 6-year-old girl claimed she heard strange noises in her room at night, but her parents didn’t believe her — until one night they found their terrified daughter hiding inside the closet 

Little Lilia had always been a calm and cheerful child. When the family moved into their new house, she immediately chose the brightest room — with large panoramic windows, a small balcony, and a big built-in closet. For the first few weeks, everything was perfect: Lilia played, drew pictures, and enjoyed her new space.

But soon she began complaining about strange noises at night.

“Mom, he’s rustling again,” she said, clutching her toy. “Someone is walking around in my room.”

Her parents didn’t believe her. They dismissed it as imagination — children her age make things up. Her father laughed: “Probably just mice.” Her mother insisted it was only the wind. But Lilia kept repeating:

“It’s not the wind, Mom. I can hear him breathing.”

In the mornings, the sounds disappeared. At night, they returned — exactly when her parents were already asleep.

Lilia started waking up in tears, falling asleep at school, and drawing darker, more disturbing pictures. Her teacher called home, saying the girl had become withdrawn and frightened.

One night, the mother decided to sleep in her daughter’s room. But the night passed quietly — no steps, no rustling. When she told Lilia, the girl just lowered her eyes:

“He doesn’t come when adults stay. Only when I’m alone.”

Day by day, Lilia grew more exhausted and worn out. Her mother began to genuinely worry, but still couldn’t fully believe her — not until that night.

She woke up to get some water and, walking past her daughter’s room, decided to peek inside. She gently opened the door… and froze.

The bed was empty.

Lilia was sitting inside the closet, curled up in the corner, trembling with fear. When the mother opened the door, the girl raised her finger to her lips.

Deep, rhythmic, unmistakably real sounds — as if someone were slowly scratching the floor from underneath. Or moving inside a narrow space behind the wall.

The noises were far too loud to be mice. And far too steady to be pipes.

Cold chills ran down the woman’s spine.

She grabbed Lilia, carried her out of the room, and — breathless with panic — woke her husband. At first he thought his wife was exaggerating. But when he went upstairs and pressed his ear to the floor… he heard it too.

The next day they opened part of the floor near the wall. Under an old wooden board they found a sealed technical hatch. Beneath it — a narrow passage between the walls.

Inside that passage were bottles, rags, food scraps. Footprints. Clear evidence that someone had been living there. Someone who only came out at night.

Police later discovered that a homeless man was being searched for in the city — someone who used to “settle” inside old or abandoned houses, hiding in maintenance shafts and ventilation spaces.

He was the one they had been hearing every night.

The family moved out of the house that very day. And for the first time in months, Lilia slept peacefully.
