In a heartbreaking tragedy, three-year-old Ryleigh Hillcoat-Bee passed away three months after being discharged from the hospital. It was later revealed that the doctors had failed to diagnose her rare illness, leading to devastating consequences for her and her family.

Ryleigh fell ill while on vacation with her family in North Wales, prompting her parents to rush her to the hospital. However, the medical staff overlooked crucial blood indicators that suggested a potentially severe muscular condition known as rhabdomyolysis.

Despite these warning signs, Ryleigh was discharged without the necessary intervention. It was only three months later, as Ryleigh struggled to breathe, that her parents, Caroline and Andrew, urgently returned her to the hospital.

Tragically, Ryleigh suffered a heart attack and passed away at Blackpool Victoria Hospital on November 8, 2021. During the subsequent investigation, District Coroner Alan Wilson highlighted several missed opportunities to assess Ryleigh’s condition before her initial discharge.

Diane Rostron, a lawyer specializing in medical errors, noted that the hospital had received clear advice from colleagues to consult a neuromuscular expert. Had the hospital followed this advice, a diagnosis of rhabdomyolysis could have been made, and appropriate treatment could have been pursued.

This crucial information might have significantly improved Ryleigh’s care and allowed her parents to manage her condition effectively. Caroline and Andy, Ryleigh’s devastated parents, firmly believe that their daughter’s death could have been prevented.
