In 2006, he ran as a candidate for governor against Ricky Perry, drawing media attention, although he ultimately finished in fourth place. He also attempted to secure the Democratic nomination for the position of Agriculture Commissioner in 2010 and 2014.

His longtime friend, Clive Hattersley, fondly described him as an exceptional communicator capable of evoking deep emotions, whether through laughter or tears. Hattersley also mentioned his struggle with Parkinson’s disease.

Kinky Friedman, an eccentric Texan singer-songwriter, passed away at the age of 79. He first gained recognition in the 1970s by forming the satirical country band Kinky Friedman and The Texas Jewboys, known for songs like “They Ain’t Makin’ Jewish Like Jesus Anymore” and “Get Your Biscuits in the Oven and Your Buns in the Bed.”

Although the group was only active for a brief period, Friedman enjoyed a successful solo career, releasing a self-titled album in 1974 and embarking on a two-year tour with Bob Dylan. Throughout his career, he released 18 albums, with his last, “Circus of Life,” coming out in 2018. The country music scene recently mourned the tragic loss of Richard “Kinky” Friedman, who died at his home in Texas at the end of June at the age of 79.
