The renowned actor and comedian Martin Mull has passed away at the age of 80, as announced by his family. His daughter, Maggie Mull, shared the heartbreaking news on Instagram, stating that her father died at home after courageously battling a long illness. She highlighted his exceptional talent in multiple forms of artistic expression, even humorously mentioning his commercials for Red Roof Inn, which, according to her, would have made him smile.

Always blessed with an admirable sense of humor, Mull leaves behind an immense void for his friends, colleagues, artists, comedians, musicians, and, of course, his many dogs. His wife and daughter will feel his absence deeply. “I loved him dearly,” added Maggie Mull. Among his most notable roles, he is particularly remembered for his portrayal of private detective Gene Parmesan in the series Arrested Development.

His prolific career earned him late recognition at the Emmy Awards in 2016, where he was nominated for his portrayal of Bob Bradley in Veep. Throughout his life, Mull explored various facets of entertainment, particularly collaborating with Fred Willard in 1985 on the mockumentary The History of White People in America.

In addition to being a talented comedian, he nurtured a passion for music and songwriting. In the 1970s, his composition A Girl Named Johnny Cash, a parody of the song A Boy Named Sue, was performed by country singer Jane Morgan. This humorous song enjoyed a certain success, spending five weeks on the Billboard Hot Country Songs chart.
