A pregnancy marked by loneliness

Pregnancy is supposed to be a magical time in a woman’s life, especially when she has the support of her husband. But for me, this period was nothing but suffering. Not only did I have to deal with incessant nausea and crushing fatigue, but I also had to deal with Arnie, who constantly reminded me how “unattractive” I had become.

Before that, our relationship was beautiful. He treated me like a queen, finding a thousand ways to prove his love. When we found out I was pregnant, he was overjoyed, brandishing the positive test like a trophy. But as soon as my body started to change, it was as if he had become a different person.

Hurtful Words and Growing Indifference

It all started with harmless remarks: “You could at least dress properly instead of lying around in your pajamas all day.” He said this, oblivious to the fact that I spent my days battling unbearable nausea.

Then his criticism intensified. One evening, coming home from work, he growled, “You spend all day lying around, and this house is in terrible shape.”

The days passed, and Arnie became more and more distant. He would come home late, always absorbed in his phone. I saw him smile when I read his messages, but as soon as I asked him questions, he evaded: “I’m just working.”

The Betrayal That Changed Everything

One night, when I was eight months pregnant, he came home well after midnight, smelling of a perfume that wasn’t mine.

I looked at him, my heart sinking. “Where have you been?” My voice trembled.

He didn’t even look up. Throwing his keys on the table, he replied curtly, “None of your business.”

Then he raised his voice, searching for something in the kitchen: “Where’s dinner?”

I forced myself to get up from the couch, despite the pain in my back and the stiffness in my legs. “I tried, but the slightest smell makes me want to throw up…”

Arnie sighed loudly. “You could have at least done the dishes.” »

His reproaches kept raining down: “I come home from work, and it’s chaos here! You don’t get anything done all day!”

Tears welled up in my eyes, but I still tried to make him understand: “Arnie, I’m doing my best. I’m exhausted…”

He sneered contemptuously. “Exhausted from what? From sitting in sweatpants all day?”

I placed a hand on my stomach. “I’m carrying our child…”

He interrupted me abruptly: “Don’t make that excuse! My sister was pregnant, and at least she took care of her husband. She cooked, cleaned, and remained attractive. You’re a shell of yourself.”

His words were like a stab. I was in shock. I realized that the man I loved no longer existed. But instead of letting it break me, an idea took root in me.

He thought he had all the power. He believed I was weak and dependent on him. But he would soon realize he was sorely mistaken.
