Progeria is an extremely rare genetic disorder in which the body ages many times faster than normal. Children born with this diagnosis have the appearance of elderly people and rarely live to adulthood.
Yekaterina Nezhenzeva was born with this diagnosis. Today she is 30 — an age doctors once believed she would never reach.
Despite the disease — which in her case mainly affected her appearance — Yekaterina developed like any normal child.
She went to kindergarten, played outside, and attended school. But her appearance was always a source of psychological pressure — from strange looks to total misunderstanding from others.
Since her youth, she dreamed of having plastic surgery — not to become beautiful, but to look more “ordinary” and avoid evoking fear or pity.
Eventually, she found doctors willing to help. The operation was successful. While the changes were minor, they were a significant step for Yekaterina.
Unexpectedly, she met love online. A simple acquaintance quickly turned into a strong relationship and marriage. The couple had two children. The older one is healthy. The younger, unfortunately, was born with progeria.
The family couldn’t withstand the pressure — after five years, her husband left. Yekaterina was left alone with two children, one of whom needed constant care.
But the story didn’t end there. A new man entered her life, someone who accepted her as she is. He wasn’t scared off by her diagnosis or her appearance.
He became her support and a father figure to her children. In 2019, he proposed to her. They’ve been together ever since.
