Amanda Lepore is one of the most striking and unusual figures in American pop culture. She’s often called a “living doll,” a “nightlife icon,” and “the woman who pushed the limits of what’s possible.”

Born in a boy’s body, Amanda felt from early childhood that she was a girl. As a teenager, she began taking hormones, and at age 19, she underwent gender reassignment surgery despite her family’s resistance.
