Before the surgery, the boy hugged his dog, but suddenly the dog jumped off the bed and attacked one of the doctors. Everyone was horrified, realizing the reason for the dog’s strange behavior. 

The small room was silent. The five-year-old boy lay on a snow-white sheet, his eyes wide and tired. The doctors told his parents that the surgery was his last chance.

The nurses were preparing him for anesthesia, when suddenly the boy whispered softly:

“Can… Archie come to me?”

“Who is Archie, darling?” one of the nurses asked in surprise.

“My dog. I’ve missed you so much. Please…” the boy’s lips trembled.

“You know, dear, they don’t allow animals in the hospital. You’re already very weak, please understand…” she tried to explain.

The boy turned away, tears glistening in the corners of his eyes:

“But I… I might never see him again.”

These words pierced the nurse’s heart. She exchanged glances with her colleagues and, to her own surprise, agreed:

“Okay. Just for a minute.”

An hour later, Archie’s parents brought him in. As soon as the dog saw his owner, he rushed to the bed, jumped on, and clung to the boy. The boy, for the first time in weeks, smiled and hugged the dog tightly.

The doctors and nurses watched this scene with moist eyes: the friendship between man and dog was stronger than pain and fear.

But suddenly Archie became wary. His fur stood on end, he jumped abruptly from the bed, and rushed to the corner of the room. The surgeon was standing there, about to perform the operation. The dog barked so furiously it seemed as if he was about to bite the doctor.

“Get that thing out of here!” ” the doctor screamed, recoiling.

His colleagues rushed to calm the dog, but suddenly one of the doctors looked at the surgeon strangely and suddenly realized the reason for the dog’s strange behavior.  Continued in the first comment  

The doctor caught a scent… A sharp, sharp smell of alcohol.

“Oh, my God…” the anesthesiologist whispered, looking at the surgeon. “Are you drunk?!”

A deathly silence fell over the room. The parents turned pale, the nurses exchanged horrified glances. Archie continued to growl, as if protecting his little owner.

A few minutes later, everything became clear: the surgeon had indeed arrived for his shift intoxicated. He was immediately suspended and his license revoked.

The operation was rescheduled. The boy was assigned to another doctor, and a few days later, it was successful.

Everyone said later: Archie wasn’t just a loyal friend—he became a guardian angel. If it weren’t for him, the outcome could have been most tragic.
