At the airport, people saw a uniformed man lying on the ground with a German Shepherd by his side: everyone was astonished to learn why the animal was barking and growling at those around him. 
The airport was packed with people that morning. Some were rushing to board, others were queuing for coffee, and others were simply watching out the window as the planes took off. But in one corner of the terminal, something strange was happening.
People began to stop, whisper, and search for their phones. On the floor, right on the cold tiles, lay a young man in military uniform. He had a small, worn blanket spread out beneath him, and he was curled up, his knees drawn up to his chest. His face was pale. His eyes were closed. He was breathing heavily.
Beside him, like a stone statue, sat a German Shepherd. Large, powerful, with intelligent eyes. It never took its eyes off the people around it for even a second. If anyone tried to approach, even just to pass by, it would rear up on its hind legs and growl. Not angrily, but as a warning.
People stopped. Someone tried to talk to it, someone called security. But no one dared to approach.
When passersby realized what was happening, why the dog was behaving so strangely, they were stunned.

It turned out it wasn’t just any dog. This was a service dog, a soldier’s companion. They had just returned from a fire, where they had spent eight grueling months.
The soldier hadn’t slept at all in the three days before his departure: he was busy filling out forms, undergoing interrogations, and waiting for permission to leave.
He endured it as best he could. And then, at the airport, a few hours before boarding, he allowed himself to lie down for the first time. Simply to fall asleep. Without fear. Without worries.
And his faithful dog, the only creature he completely trusted, knew that no one would touch him while he slept.
When an airport worker, who had already been alerted, approached, he spoke calmly to the dog. He showed it his ID, sat down slowly, and let the dog sniff his hand.
Only then did the shepherd slowly step aside, still watching. They didn’t wake the soldier. They simply put up a fence so no one would disturb him. And one of the passersby discreetly left a bottle of water and a bag of food.
Two hours later, the man woke up. He didn’t know there was a crowd, that someone had even burst into tears at the sight of the dog’s devotion. He simply stood up, petted the dog’s head, grabbed his backpack, and walked toward the door.
