The maid almost always made the boy do the household chores that she herself was supposed to do. But one day, when the child’s father came home earlier than usual, he saw all this and stood there in amazement.

After the child’s mother died, his father hired a maid to look after the child and take care of other household chores. At first, when their collaboration had just begun, things went even better than expected.

Every time the man came home, he saw that all the household chores were done, and the child was smiling with joy.

One day, a few months later, he came home from work two hours earlier than usual. The maid, of course, didn’t know this and at that very moment, she was making the child wash the floor. 

The father, upon entering the house, was surprised by the unusual silence. There was no one in the living room. He went to the kitchen and witnessed a scene he could never have imagined.

The maid stood there frozen, not expecting the father to arrive so soon. Richard looked at the child—tired, trembling, and with small scratches on his hands. His heart clenched with pain and anger.

“Emily, come here,” he said softly, walking towards his daughter. The little girl, fearing an even more severe punishment, slowly stood up. He took her in his arms, holding her close, and felt the trembling gradually disappear.

The maid tried to justify herself:
“I… I just wanted her to learn responsibility…” she began, but the words caught in her throat when Richard turned to her with an icy stare.

—Responsibility? — he repeated coldly. —On your knees, bleeding, instead of helping the child grow… You have crossed all lines.

Emily saw for the first time the determination in her father’s eyes and understood: finally someone had noticed her suffering. She felt that fear was slowly giving way to security.

Richard ordered the maid to gather her things immediately. She stood there, unsure of what to say, and he turned to his daughter:
“No one will hurt you again,” he promised her.

That day, Emily understood that even after the longest months of fear, one can once again feel protection and love. And as the house filled with silence, she allowed herself, for the first time in a long time, to smile gently.
