Amari and Javar Ruffin were born in 2023 via C-section. The boys were partially connected at the chest, diaphragm, abdominal wall, and liver, and their total birth weight was only 6 pounds.

For the family, these were days filled with both fear and hope. When they discovered the rare condition through a routine ultrasound at the 12th week of pregnancy, the parents faced a difficult choice: not keeping the babies or seeking the possibility of separation.

They sought a second opinion and learned that the surgery was possible.

On August 21, 2024, a team of more than two dozen specialists, including surgeons, anesthesiologists, radiologists, and nurses, carried out an eight-hour surgery.

The complex process included separating the organs, reconstructing the abdominal wall with the help of mesh, and plastic surgery.

After the operation, the boys returned home to their parents, Timmo and Shaneka Ruffin, along with their older children, Kylum and Anora.

“Seeing them in separate cribs was indescribable,” Shaneka shared. “We are starting a new chapter as a family of six and are endlessly grateful to the hospital for this miracle.”

Today, Amari and Javar are growing up like normal children: laughing, playing, and developing each with their own unique individuality.
