The courier noticed a woman at the window shouting something: he was horrified when he realized what she was actually saying 

The courier had worked in this neighborhood for a long time. There were only luxurious mansions here, well-kept lawns, and expensive cars at the gates. But behind all this shine hid a coldness. The homeowners rarely greeted him, often looked down on him, and spoke to him as if he were invisible. Over time, he got used to it: his job was to deliver, not to seek friendship.

One day he had to deliver a package to the house on the corner. Nothing unusual: a tall façade, columns, large windows. He left the box at the door, took a photo for the report, and was about to return to his truck. But then he noticed movement on the second floor.

At the window stood a woman of about forty. She was staring straight at him. The courier instinctively raised his hand, thinking she was simply greeting him. But her gestures were not a greeting. She was pounding her palms against the glass, waving her arms desperately, and shouting something while pressing her face to the window.

He froze, feeling a chill run down his spine. The woman’s lips kept repeating the same thing over and over. He couldn’t read lips, but he understood immediately what she was trying to say  Continuation in the first comment 

Two words.

“Help me.”

The next moment she was yanked backward. She disappeared so abruptly, as if someone had grabbed her and dragged her away.

The courier could barely breathe. His heart was pounding in his chest, but he quickly pulled himself together. Everything pointed to the husband being responsible. Deciding not to act rashly, he went back to his vehicle and waited.

After a while, the door of the mansion opened. A man came out, got into an expensive car, and drove away. Then the courier approached the house again, this time cautiously, from the backyard.

He knocked on the back door, but it was locked. Down below, in a small window, a figure appeared — the same woman.

He gathered his courage, broke the lock, and went inside. The woman began speaking quickly and incoherently.

Her husband had reinforced the locks on all the doors. He had installed cameras in every room. The bars on the windows were disguised so that they could not be seen from the outside. The woman and her daughter were forbidden to go out. For two years they had lived like prisoners.

— “He thinks we will leave him,” she said, clenching her fingers tightly. “And that’s why he keeps us locked up.”

The window where she had appeared had become her only chance. The husband had forgotten to lock the office, and she took the risk. For many months she had tried to signal to passersby, but everyone walked past. Except for one person.

The courier pulled out his phone and called the police.

When it was all over, the woman and her daughter were freed. The husband was arrested.
