On July 24, 2024, President Joe Biden emotionally announced
from the Oval Office that he would withdraw from the 2024
presidential race.
Citing concerns about age and health,
especially after a difficult June debate,
Biden said his decision was for the good of the country and the Democratic Party:
“The defense of democracy is more important than any title.”
Surrounded by his family,
Biden reflected on his journey from Scranton to the presidency, saying,
“Nowhere else on earth could a kid with a stutter…
one day sit behind the Resolute Desk.”
